Rok Gregorič: Representations, loop spaces, and the Riemann-Roch theorem

Abstract: The projection formula is one of the most basic results of representation theory. In this lecture, we shall see how  rephrasing it in a different language allows us to predict the form of the celebrated Riemann-Roch theorem. If time permits, we will elaborate on the relationship to Hochschild homology and generalized notions of trace. The lecture will be somewhat informal, and its primary goal will be trying to convey some ideas that emerged in algebraic geometry, often with origin in topology, in the last few decades.
