Serhii Bardyla: Algebra in Stone-Čech compactification and its application to topological groups

Abstract:

We shall introduce and discuss a semigroup structure hidden in the Stone-Čech compactification \beta(G) of a discrete (semi)group G. We shall present the applications of this structure to other branches of Mathematics, focusing our attention to Bohr compactification of topological groups and automatic continuity of group operations in so called chart groups. The semigroup structure of \beta(G) gives rise to some peculiar types of ultrafilters, which will be our main tools.
