The Rise of Massive Galaxies and SMBHs at the Epoch of Reionization

The study of supermassive black holes and their host galaxies during the Epoch of Reionization provides key insights into the formation of the first massive systems in the Universe. Recent observations with JWST and sub-millimeter facilities have revealed that early quasars reside in compact, dust-rich galaxies undergoing intense star formation and rapid chemical enrichment. These systems likely represent a short-lived but critical phase of galaxy growth, in which efficient gas accretion fuels both star formation and black hole activity. I will discuss how the SMBH-feedback regulates the evolution of their host galaxies, and highlight the importance of semi-analytical models in tracing SMBH--galaxy co-evolution across cosmic time.
