Polymers are often used to regulate stability and phase behaviour of colloidal suspensions. We can then use of their ability to mediate interactions between colloids at long range, even if the monomer-colloid interaction is short-ranged. The net outcome depends on a number of parameters, such as average chain length, intrinsic rigidity of the polymers, polydispersity etc. In this talk, I will discuss how classical) density functional theory can be utilized to study interactions in these systems.
