Brendan Owens (Glasgow University), Tame subsets of spheres

Abstract:

Bieri and Groves conjectured that a metabelian group G is of
type FP_m if and only if a certain subset of the unit sphere in
Hom(G,R) is m-tame.  I will explain what the terms in the conjecture mean and describe some results about large n-tame sets in the n-1 sphere.  This is joint work with Robert Bieri and Peter Kropholler.
