György Gehér: On Hilbert space operators similar to normal operators

Abstract: Sz.-Nagy's famous similarity theorem from 1947 characterizes Hilbert space operators that are similar to unitary operators. In the talk we will provide a possible generalization of the famous Sz.-Nagy similarity theorem. Namely, we will investigate power bounded operators that are similar to normal operators, and explore their asymptotic behaviour. We will also characterize those (not necessarily bounded) injective bilateral shift operators that are similar to normal operators.
