Beno Ucakar: On quasiconformal folding and Runge approximation.
Abstract: In 2014 C. J. Bishop published his work on quasiconformal folding, which is a new approach to construct transcendental entire functions with good control over singular values. The technique has many applications in transcendental dynamics, but it was also used by C. J. Bishop and K. Lazebnik in 2023 to prove a refined version of the classical Runge approximation theorem, where one has additional control over the critical points and critical values of the approximating polynomial. Both of these results are rather well known, but the details of the proofs are often glossed over. My aim for the talk is to present both results and give some more insight into the main ideas of the proofs.
