Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daniel Svenšek (FMF, KI): Two lives of an acoustic emitter: a drop in the meta-ocean and the king of timbre
In the first part, I will present an essay on modeling ultrasonic metafluids in the form of suspensions of discrete microscopic oscillators coupled to the embedding simple fluid. Unlike a common depiction of metamaterials, metafluids do not necessarily rely on ideal micro-oscillators with regular (modal) shapes and periodicity or correlation in their positioning. The discrete structure of the micro-oscillators, in contrast to a continuum, also hides a potentially significant surprise.
In the second part, I will present a challenging effort to introduce harmonic timbre coordinates using violoncelli as the working example. These coordinates are concrete and robust numbers intended to quantify the harmonic aspect of a musical instrument's timbre with a precision that allows relevance in musical context.
