Nuclear data refers to input information that is needed in applications involving nuclear techniques, including
- nuclear reactors: fission and fusion reactor design,
- radiation shielding; nuclear reactors, accelerators, medicine,
- analytical methods: neutron activation analysis, ion beam analysis,
- astropyisics: evolution of nuclides on astrophysical time scale,
- medical applications: radio-isotope production for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes,
- neutron dosimetry: monitoring neutron flux and spectra in neutron fields,
- oil-well logging: identify hydrocarbon-rich material outside the well,
- cargo inspection: prevention of illicit traficking,
- demining: search for land mines in former war zones etc.

We define the data types that are needed. In particular, we distinguish between:
- Data that describe the internal structure of the nucleus,
- Particle interactions if different incident particles with nuclei, namely the reaction rates,
- Decay data,
- Fission product yields.

In this presentation we show where the relevant nuclear data can be found, how they are measured, evaluated, validated and prepared for use in applications.
