As humans, physicists, optical scientists, and engineers, we measure and compare. Physics is that part of natural sciences that studies matter, its fundamental constituents, its motion and behavior through space and time, and the related entities of energy and force. Optics is an essential part of physics, spiced with some exquisite mathematical tools and operations. We started with the wave equation, enhanced it with the Fourier transforms, continued with neural networks, and finally focused on wavelets and blind faith in machine algorithms. The old (pre-dark-matter) physics was basically optics - our sense of vision receives most information from the outside world to help us make decisions. To make our experiments more exact, we employ an enormous amount of engineering know-how. After talking about the relationship between optical sciences and physics, I will use black-body radiation and interferometry to conceptualize an instrument to detect a potential solar system. We rely on comparison inherent in interferometry and temporal change in the signal induced in the temporal-derivative embodiment of a rotationally shearing interferometry. This measurement technique is also ideal for characterizing the aberrations of the modern free-form optical surfaces.
