Superconducting electrical circuits are one of the leading platforms for building quantum coherent devices for applications in simulations and computing. I will first give a short introduction to the topics of quantum mechanics of macroscopic objects, superconductivity, Josephson effect, transmons, and quantum dots. I will then present my work in these fields, focusing on the physics of discrete states inside the superconducting gap and the interpretation of tunneling and microwave spectroscopy of Josephson junctions with an embedded quantum dot.
