Vabljeno mnenje ob odkritju Hopfove fibracije v frustriranih tekočih kristalih
Rev. Lett. 110, 237801 (2013). Skupini iz Univerze v Pennsylvanii (R. D. Kamien) in Univerze v Coloradu Boulder (I. I. Smalyukh) sta Hopfovo fibracijo ustvarili v molekularnem orientacijskem polju tekočega kristala z uporabo holografske optične pincete. Fibracija zanimivo ostane časovno stabilna in s tem zaobide uveljavljeni Derrickov teorem o topoloških solitonih.
Invited APS Viewpoint on generating the Hopf fibration in frustrated liquid crystals
Invited by the editors of the journal Physical Review Letters, Miha Ravnik from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics UL and Centre of Excellence NAMASTE, published a paper Topology with Liquid Crystals [Physics 6, 65 (2013)], as a Viewpoint upon the generation of the Hopf fibration in frustrated cholesteric liquid crystals, just published in Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 237801 (2013). The groups from the University of Pennsylvania (R. D. Kamien) and University of Colorado at Boulder (I. I. Smalyukh) have created the Hopf fibration in the molecular orientation field of the liquid crystal by using holographic optical tweezers. Interestingly, the fibration remains stable in time, which circumvents the established Derrick's theorem on topological solitons.
