High Energy and High Intensity Frontiers of Particle Physics

Jernej F. Kamenik

The most important open questions in contemporary particle physics concern the origin of mass and structure. Over the past few decades, most key predictions of the standard model of fundamental particles and interactions have been spectacularly confirmed in experiments. However, the currently established theory contains a multitude of parameters spanning orders of magnitude in size. It also fails to provide compelling explanations for the observed energy and matter content of the Universe. Experimental clues to these puzzles are sought both at high energy particle colliders as well as through precision measurements of particle properties and rare processes. I will present some aspects of this fruitful interplay with focus on recent studies involving the heaviest known elementary particle - the top quark.
