Many-body systems with quasiperiodic potential: a testbed for nonequilibrium physics

Povzetek / Abstract:

When particles interact interesting physics can emerge on large scales. One of the simplest nonequilibrium phenomena is transport of e.g. particles across a system due to an external driving. The question that I will address is how such transport depends on microscopic equations of motion. It is an old problem that is not well understood, particularly in one dimension. I will present a seemingly very simple quantum spin chain in a quasiperiodic potential that nevertheless, depending on parameters, shows all different transport types. Besides being of theoretical interest, the model is also experimentally relevant, and in its noninteracting version leads to a famous mathematical problem.
