Department of Astroparticle Physics, FZU
Postdoc / Senior researcher in Astroparticle Physics
The Department of Astroparticle Physics invites applications for a postdoctoral or senior research position. The position is to start at the beginning of 2024.
The successful candidate will participate in the theoretical or experimental studies of the ultra-high energy phenomena in the Universe by joining activities of one of the following existing or future observatories: Pierre Auger Observatory, Cherenkov Telescope Array, Southern Wide-field Gamma-ray Observatory. Applicants will work in the larger team involved as well in the Telescope Array and the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. A wide range of possibilities offered in the position consider the development of data analyses regarding properties of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays, high-energy gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos, as well as work on improvement of the design and instrumentation of the future observatories. We welcome applications from theorists working in ultrahigh-energy particle acceleration and propagation areas.
What you will do:
- Participate in the work of the leading astrophysical observatories
- Work in a team of experienced experimental and theoretical physicists
- Improve and develop new data-analysis techniques
- Work on the design of the future observatories
- Participate in international conferences and publish your research in refereed journals
Required qualifications:
- PhD degree in particle physics or astrophysics
- Experience with data analysis in experimental (astro)particle physics or in theoretical modelling of acceleration of particles to ultra-high energies and their transport through the Universe
- Proficiency in programming and computing
- Experience with Monte Carlo simulations using farm and grid resources is an advantage
- Good skills in machine learning techniques are an advantage
- Creative thinking and proactive problem-solving
- Good knowledge of English (written and spoken)
What we can offer:
- Interesting work in astroparticle physics field connecting phenomenology and experiment
- Working in the international environment of large collaboration
- Participation in multidisciplinary scientific projects
- Working in an international team and a stimulating environment
- Access to powerful computing (~10000 CPUs) and storage resources of the local farm and grid computing
- Training and development (seminars, workshops, conferences, high-quality language courses, soft skills training)
- A competitive salary
- Support of your work-life balance – flexible work hours, work from home
- Multisport card, meal allowance, 25 days of vacation + 6 days of personal leave/year and other benefits
