Professional (first cycle) study programme

Graduates obtain the title diplomirani matematik (VS)/diplomirana matematičarka (VS), abbreviated to dipl. mat. (VS).

This is a 3-year programme (6 semesters) with 180 ECTS credits.

The primary goal of the professional study programme in Practical Mathematics is to produce professionals capable of application of their mathematical knowledge in the working process in communications and information technology, technology, logistics, and elsewhere.

Curriculum

Year 1: Mathematics 1, Linear algebra, Computer practical, Computer tools in mathematics, Programming 1, Communicating mathematics, Introduction to physics, electives.

Year 2: Mathematics 2, Numerical methods 1, Mathematics in practice, Algebra and discrete mathematics, Probability, Physics practical, Programming 2, Statistics, Mathematical tools in physics, Differential equations.

Year 3: Optimization, Computer science 1, Data bases 1, Mechanics, Partial differential equations, Workplace experience, electives.

Percentage of electives in the programme is 12.8% (23 credits), of those at least 8.3% (15 credits) from mathematics electives and up to 4.4% (8 credits) from general electives.

A student has to select at least 60 credits every year.

Admission requirements »

Admission to the study programme is open to holders of the final examination certificate, the vocational matura certificate or the matura certificate obtained by completion of any four-year high school equivalent programme (or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution).

Enrolment, re-enrolment and graduation requirements »

Enrolment in Year 1 is granted upon admission. For enrollment in the next study year, it is necessary to earn 54 ECTS credits from courses and exams in the current study year. In addition, all exams of the first study year must have been completed to be allowed enrollment in the third study year.

Validation of competences, knowledge, and skills acquired prior to admission to the study program »

Students may apply for validation of competences acquired previously by means of various forms of education if their competences match those of one or more courses offered within this study programme.

Transferring from other study programmes

It is possible to transfer from other study programmes. The appropriate year of study as well as other transfer requirements are determined on the basis of the programme the student is transferring from. The exact conditions for finishing the programme are determined by the department study committee.
