Psychosocial Support and Counseling for Students and Staff

To help everyone at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Ljubljana to feel as psychologically healthy as possible, we offer various forms of assistance and support to our students and staff.

Psychosocial Counseling Service

The Psychosocial Counseling Service is available to all students and staff who need support in addressing everyday problems or who are experiencing distress. You can also seek counseling if you: need advice on your studies, work, independence, or life in general, if you are dealing with painful experiences or past losses, if you are struggling with motivation and achieving your goals, or if you wish to improve your communication and interpersonal relationships. You can also simply have a conversation about yourself and receive feedback if you're curious.

The service is not limited to specialist counseling but also offers a forum for the discussion of everyday questions and thoughts. Conversations take place in a calm, confidential setting with a dedicated professional, ensuring anonymity and discretion.

How to Schedule an Appointment

Choose the location that is most convenient for you and a counselor with whom you do not have any other type of relationship (academic, familial, etc.). Contact them via email to arrange a suitable time. Alternatively, you can visit during the service hours, but this is not recommended as the counselor might not be available, and you may need to rearrange the appointment.

If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, notify the counselor a few days in advance so that the time can be offered to someone else. If you're unable to attend in person, for health reasons or due to university closure, you can arrange online counseling via Skype, Zoom, or similar platforms.

Please make arrangements with one consultant only, with whom you should agree the date and time, type and conditions of the consultation in advance via email.

In Case of Severe Distress

If you are in serious distress, please contact emergency medical services at 112, the Crisis Intervention Unit in Ljubljana (Grablovičeva 44a, phone: (01) 5874 922), or the Outpatient Psychiatry Center (Njegoševa 4, Ljubljana, phone: (01) 4750 685).

Confidential Persons for Dignity Protection

The University of Ljubljana is committed to zero tolerance for all forms of violence, harassment, and bullying. A network of confidential advisors is in place across its faculties to provide students and staff with a safe space to discuss any behaviour that infringes upon your dignity or creates a hostile environment. They will inform you about your rights and possible next steps.

At the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, the confidential advisors are: Prof. Dr. Irena Drevenšek Olenik, asist. dr. Jure Kališnik and Mojca Slapničar.

The measures for protecting dignity are outlined in the University's Regulations on Dignity Protection for Staff and Students.

LGBT Support

The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics is the first member of the University of Ljubljana to be certified as LGBT-friendly. If you are an LGBT individual with suggestions or questions, or if you need support regarding coming out, family issues, or if you experience or witness inappropriate behavior or violence, you can contact the LGBT coordinator, Prof. Dr. Matjaž Konvalinka.

Student Ombudsman

The Student Ombudsman's Office is a university body dedicated to upholding the principles of equality, inclusion, dignity, respect, and student rights. It serves as a mediator between the academic environment and broader society, promoting a culture of open and respectful diversity. The office supports both students and staff in creating an inclusive study environment, adapting the study process, and addressing personal circumstances.

The office works with the Student Questions Committee and the Psychosocial Counseling Service.

The Student Ombudsman is Dr. Milena Košak Babuder.

Office hours: By appointment.
