Title: Dynamics of holomorphic automorphisms.

Abstract: There are a lot of holomorphic automorphisms of C^k. There are so many automorphisms that it seems impossible to prove any restrictions on the dynamics of such maps: just about any phenomena can occur, and will in fact occur for typical maps. The contrast with rational functions is large: for those one-dimensional functions there exist clear restrictions on the possible dynamical phenomena, and characterizations of the phenomena that can occur. Significant parts of this theory have successfully been generalized to higher dimensions, in particular to polynomial automorphisms in two complex variables. In this talk I will discuss some rather fundamental properties of rational dynamical systems and one-dimensional entire dynamics, and consider whether these properties hold for a specific class of holomorphic automorphisms; the transcendental Henon maps. It is even possible that by considering this smaller class of maps, we uncover some dynamical behavior that was unknown to occur for arbitrary holomorphic automorphisms. This talk is based on ongoing work with Leandro Arosio, Anna Miriam Benini and John Erik Fornaess.
