Daniel Vitas: Dedekind domains

Abstract: Lamé's infamous failed attempt to prove Fermat’s Last Theorem showed that we mathematicians needed a deeper understanding of rings of algebraic integers. In this talk, I’ll explain how Kummer and Dedekind provided a beautiful framework for this, turning algebra into the study of structure itself.
