Prerequisites

Admission to the first year. Fulfilled all the requirements of the Computing Laboratory lecture course.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Tabulation of data. Long data sets. One-pass operations: sums, scalar products, averages. Binning. Sorting. Median. Quantiles. Plots: histograms, 2D plots, trajectories. Log and log-log plots. Plotting a family of curves. 3D plots. False-color presentation. Linear and non-linear regression. Noise reduction.

Objectives and competences

Getting experience in the use of basic computer tools for data presentation and processing.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding: Understanding of the selection and implementation of computer algorithms.

Application: Graphical presentation of data and basic data processing.

Reflection: Visualization of data and results.

Transferable skills: Learn how to create graphical reports. Become proficient in use of computer graphics and software tools.

Learning and teaching methods

Weekly projects, use of computers within classes, consultations.

Assessment

Grade based upon points earned in 12 successfully completed weekly projects.
grading: 5 (fail), 6-10 (pass) (according to the Statute of UL)
