Content (Syllabus outline)

The students prepare presentations of themes from physics and related interdisciplinary fields. The subjects are suggested by a mentor or chosen by the student, preferably from newer fields not yet incorporated in the curriculum.
The presentation is oral in Slovene or English, after submission of an accepted written text and presentation graphics.

Readings

Predvsem fizikalne in interdisciplinarne revije, ki so namenjene širši fizikalni javnosti:
Scientific papers in physics and interdisciplinary fields of general interest, published for instance in:
Physics Today.
Physics world.
Europhysics News.
Nature.
Science.
Contemporary Physics.
American Journal of Physics.
Scientific American.
New Scientist.
Obzornik za matematiko in fiziko.

Objectives and competences

For the presenter, an experience in choosing a suitable subject, search of supporting information, and in the efficient written and oral presentation.
For the auditorium, new knowledge from physics and related fields, and an experience in scientific debate.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
Knowledge of the new achievements in physics and related fields.

Application
An exercise in mastering and presentation of a subject.

Reflection
Experience in listening to different speakers and in communication in a scientific debate.

Transferable abilities

The ability of understanding and presenting a new subject. The experience of an active audience to a nonprofessional speaker.

Learning and teaching methods

Mentorship, consultations, active participation in the presentation.

Assessment

The assesment of the oral and written presentation
and of active participation in the audience, in equal parts.
