Electronics in Physics

Analog Electronics: Foundations, passive circuits (RC circuits), frequency analysis, filters, diodes and diode circuits. Bipolar transistors, Ebers-Moll model, basic transistor circuits, differential amplifiers, high-frequency model. Operational amplifiers and feedback, the golden rules, linear, exponential and logarithmic amplifiers, integrators, differenciators, active peak detector; feedback at low gains, stability. Comparators. Field-effect transistors, basic circuits, variable resistors, linear and logic switches, CMOS inverter.
Digital Electronics: Foundations, number codes. Gates and truth tables, Bool rules, minimization and Karnaugh maps, binary adders, multiplexers, decoders. Flip-flops, examles of use, binary counters, shift registers.
A/D and D/A conversion: D/A converters (scaled resistors, R-2R ladder), A/D converters (parallel encoder, feedback and dual slope converters). Time conversion. Consequences of A/D conversion.
Noise: Origins and kinds of noise (Johnson noise, shot noise, 1/f noise), noise sources in transistors, amplifier noise, description with equivalent noise sources, signal-to-noise ratio, noise figure.

Knowledge of the basic building blocks of electronic circuits (in the sense of an emitter follower, integrator, flip-flop) and their operation and integration. Understanding the causes of limitations (frequency range, nonlinearity, instability, noise). Ability to design and to optimize simple electronic circuits. Understanding the electronic schemes.
