Content (Syllabus outline)

- visits and presentations of laboratories and research groups at UL FMF, Jozef Stefan Institute and elsewhere;
- presenation of potential master thesis field (field of physics, interdisciplinary field);
- presentation of potential supervisors for Master thesis

Readings

Depending on the subject of the master thesis; beside the basic literature for the courses related to the thesis also overview scientific papers from various fields; other expert literature based on the supervisors recommendation.

Objectives and competences

Objectives:
familiarity with research fields for a potential Master thesis and typical scientific methods used in the chosen field of research

Competences:
overview of physics research fields, choice of appropriate research problem and scientific methods

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding

Understanding of basic physics principles related to the subject of the chosen thesis and basic research methods used for the chosen problem

Application

Familiarity with research work methods to be encountered in the future scientific and research work.

Reflection

Connection with knowledge acquired at various courses in previous studies. Capability of knowledge interconnection is searching for solutions to given problem.

Transferable skills

Critical overview of research fields, definition of scientific research problem

Learning and teaching methods

Individual and consultations with the supervisors.
Visits and presentations of laboratories and research groups

Assessment
