Purpose of the device and additional information
The telescope (the largest telescope in Slovenia) will provide the necessary complementarity and will be available for a series of spectroscopic observations of bright targets of particular interest, as the telescope has the appropriate technical characteristics and is permanently available. The purchased telescope fits directly into the work plan of the P1-0188 programme and other projects. The importance for higher education and the popularisation of science is also particularly emphasised. It will be used for regular student project laboratories in courses (10 to 50 students per year in each course), and will be directly integrated into master and PhD theses. Cooperation with other universities is expected.
We also organise regular monthly public lectures and quarterly open days at the Astronomical Observatory. Tours and telescope demonstrations are an integral part of these events. Our members also organise summer camps for young astronomers and lead the preparation of students for the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad. All these activities are important for the promotion of scientific and technical studies in the country.
