Prior agreement on the topic of the project and approval by the lecturer (project supervisor) and the coordinator of the study programme.
Project work
The student becomes familiar with the process of a project work, from agreement to the completion of the project. The content of the project must be from the field of mathematics or computer mathematics. The project must include at least some of the following elements: creation of a model solution for a concrete mathematical problem from the real world, application of theoretical knowledge to real data, preparation and implementation of an extensive mathematical or computer science workshop on the chosen topic, development of computer aids for teaching mathematics in secondary schools. At the end, the student prepares a report and presents the results in the form of a seminar lecture.
Izvajalec predmeta izbere primerne raziskovalne članke iz znanstvenih revij ter uporabniške pripomočke za programsko opremo, ki so v povezavi s temo projekta.
The lecturer selects appropriate research papers from scientific journals, user manuals and other documentation for the software, related to the topic of the project.
The goal of the course is to develop skills for independent project work, for using the acquired theoretical knowledge to address real-world problems, understanding, selecting and applying appropriate software tools related to the topic of the project, and developing organizational and managerial skills.
Competences that students gain through project work include: educational, communication and social competences for knowledge transfer and leadership, ability to communicate with potential users of mathematical knowledge, development of teamwork skills and proficiency in using and selecting appropriate software tools.
Knowledge and understanding:
The ability to mathematically formulate or model real-world problems, the ability to select appropriate mathematical solutions, appropriate software solutions, and to prepare in a good way the data for further processing.
Application:
Solving real-world problems in connection with companies, educational institutions or research organizations.
Reflection: Reflection of one's own understanding of theoretical mathematical knowledge by solving problems from the real world. Critical assessment of differences between theoretical and practical principles.
Transferable skills:
Skills in applying theoretical knowledge, data collection and interpretation, collaboration with experts from other fields, teamwork, reporting on work results, writing reports, workshop preparation.
Project work, individual study, consultations, presentations or workshops.
Project report and project presentation or workshop implementation.
grades: fail, pass (according to the Statute of UL)
