Admission requirements

PHYSICS

a) Holders of the matura certificate (or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution).

b) Holders of the vocational matura certificate obtained in secondary professional education, technical education programs, or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution. In this case, additional examination in mathematics in the general matura exam is required. If the candidate has already passed this subject at the vocational maturation, any general maturation subject can be chosen. The chosen subject must not be a subject already completed at the vocational matura exam.

c) Holders of the final examination certificate obtained in any four-year high school programmes before 1 June 1995.

APPLIED PHYSICS

a) Holders of the matura certificate (or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution).

b) Holders of the vocational matura certificate obtained in any four-year high school programme (or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution).

c) Holders of the final examination certificate obtained in any four-year high school programmes before 1 June 1995.

Language requirements

Requirements: none

Recommendation: minimum B2 (Slovenian)

EU and SLOVENIANS ABROAD

  • First application deadline: 18 February - 18 March
  • Second application deadline: 20 - 27 August
  • Who can apply? Slovenian and EU citizens, Slovenians abroad, non-EU citizens with permanent residence in Slovenia, if themselves or one of their parents is a Slovenian taxpayer, persons with international or temporary protection, and non-EU nationals who completed secondary school in Slovenia.

NON-EU

  • First application deadline: 18 February - 18 March

PARALLEL STUDY and TRANSFER INTO HIGHER YEAR BETWEEN PROGRAMMES

  • Application deadline: 1 -8 September
  • Who can apply? Parallel: Slovenian and EU citizens, Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship. Transfer: All candidates, regardless of citizenship.
Enrollment slots

PHYSICS

  • 140 slots (Slovenians and EU citizens);
  • 10 slots (Slovenians living abroad);
  • 15 slots (Non-EU citizens*);
  • 20 slots (Transfer to a 2nd or higher year between programmes for all candidates);
  • 5 slots (Parallel study for Slovenian citizens, EU citizens and Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship)

APPLIED PHYSICS

  • 30 slots (Slovenian and EU citizens);
  • 4 slots (Slovenians living abroad);
  • 4 slots (Non-EU citizens*);
  • 20 slots (Transfer to a 2nd or higher year between programmes for all candidates);
  • 4 slots (Parallel study for Slovenian citizens, EU citizens and Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship)

*Non-EU citizens granted international protection or applicants for international protection or foreign citizens with permanent residence in Slovenia, if themselves or one of their parents is a Slovenian taxpayer or non-EU nationals who completed secondary school in Slovenia, apply to the available enrolment slots for EU citizens.

Enrollment

The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics will send enrollment invitations to accepted candidates via email, so when applying to eVŠ, candidates must use a valid email address. Candidates will finish the enrollment process online.

Expected enrollment invitation date: August

Graduate enrolment

Slovenian citizens and EU citizens may apply to enrol as graduates (regular call for Slovenian and EU citizens).

Graduate students must pay tuition fees in accordance with Article 77 of the Higher Education Act. In this case, you will receive the Education Agreement and tuition fee invoice before the faculty confirms your enrollment.

Parallel enrollment

Slovenian citizens, EU citizens, and Slovenians living abroad can apply for parallel enrollment after successfully finishing their first year of studies at their home faculty. Application is also possible after finishing the upper years, but no later than when enrolling in the last year of studies at their home faculty. Application is not possible in the additional year.

Choose the correct call.

For enrolment in the first year of parallel studies, no tuition fee is required if the candidates have not yet achieved an education corresponding to at least the level of education obtained in the study programme in which they are enrolled.

Candidates must prepare the following documentation:

  • documents confirming that they meet the conditions for enrollment in a study program
  • recognition of foreign education,
  • a certificate confirming that they have completed the obligations for enrolment in a higher year at the higher education institution where they are already enrolled,
  • consent of the current faculty.
Year plus

During their first year at the University of Ljubljana, international students may attend Year Plus, in which the Slovenian language courses are mandatory. Year Plus is designed to help international students to adapt to the Slovenian system and culture in their first year of study in Slovenia:

  • for international students in their 1st year at the University of Ljubljana;
  • learning Slovene for free;
  • up to 3 ECTS;
  • three lessons per week + some additional activities;
  • extension of student status is possible when meeting specific requirements.

You can apply for the Year Plus module 24 hours after finishing the application process at the faculty. You will need your digital certificate to use. Students will receive further information via email. The number of places is limited, so we recommend that candidates apply as soon as possible!

Admission requirements for enrollment in a higher year

Candidates must meet:

  • conditions for enrollment in the 1st year of the study program (see above Admission requirements for the first year) and
  • conditions for enrollment in the higher year

Conditions for enrollment in the higher year

Physics

  • for enrollment in the 2nd year: Classical physics, Mathematics I and II, Physics practicum I and II, Computer practicum and a total of at least 52 ECTS,
  • for enrollment in the 3rd year: all 1st year exams, Modern Physics 1 and 2, Mathematics 3 and 4, Physics practicum 3 and 4 and a total of at least 50 ECTS.

Applied Physics

  • for enrollment in the 2nd year: Physics 1, Mathematics 1, Measurement technique practicum 1 and 2 and a total of at least 54 ECTS,
  • for enrollment in the 3rd year: all exams of the 1st year, Physics 2, Mathematics 2, Practicum of measurement techniques 3 and 4 and a total of at least 54 ECTS from the subjects of the 2nd year.

Application

The Call for enrolment into undergraduate degree programmes at the University of Ljubljana is published here.

Candidates apply for enrollment through the eVŠ web portal.

Enrollment

  1. STEP: The candidate should inform the student office of the intention to enrol in a higher year immediately (by email).
  2. STEP: To the above notice, the candidate should attach the Transcript of Records from his current faculty. The candidate must indicate to which study program he would like to transfer.
  3. STEP: Academic Affairs Committee determines the study year in which the candidate can enrol or the missing obligations for enrollment in the desired study year.
  4. STEP: Application via the eVŠ portal.
  5. STEP: The candidate must send the following documents to the student office: a) documents confirming that they meet the conditions for enrollment in a study program; b) recognition of foreign education; c) Transcript of Records from the current faculty.
  6. STEP: Examination of the enrollment documentation by the faculty.
  7. STEP: The faculty will send a candidate a decision regarding the enrollment.
  8. STEP: The candidate will receive instructions for completing the registration by email.
  9. STEP: Completion and submission of the application paper (online) by the candidate.
  10. STEP: The candidate will know he is successfully enrolled when he receives the invoice.

Tuition

According to Article 77 of the Act on Higher Education, students who have already used a transfer (change of a study program) or repeated a year must pay the tuition fee. Tuition fees for study programmes. Student who enrol in a higher year than they were enrolled in their former study programme, do not need to pay the tuition fee.

Important!

Since enrollment in a higher year counts as a transfer, candidates lose the right:

  • to repeat a year,
  • to transfer without tuition and
  • to an additional year.
