Content (Syllabus outline)

Learning and application of basic physics concepts and laws while exploring the operation of various devices and properties of various materials (for example LCD monitor, fluorescent lamp, halogen bulb, LED, magnetic and piezoelectric speaker, MRI, diesel motor and more). Examples will include physics ideas from basic topics for which it is known that are difficult for students to master.

Lessons will be complemented with demonstrational experiments and audio-video material. Laboratory work will include open ended problems and will be based on guided inquiry.

Objectives and competences

Learn about basic physics principles behind the operation of selected devices, properties of materials and applicability of basic physics in solving technological problems.

Ability to communicate ideas in physic and technology.

Expanding and deepening the knowledge of basic physics.
Learning scientific and technological terminology.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:
Understanding of basic physics concepts and laws and their universal applicability in technology and engineering.

Use of appropriate terminology and types of communication in science and technology with emphasis on physics.

Awareness of the characteristics of scientific approach in solving applicative problems.

Transferable skills
Critical thinking in evaluating claims and reports in science and technology. Ability to think analytically and communicate your ideas.

Learning and teaching methods

Lessons, cooperative learning and peer instruction, active learning using guided inquiry, student seminars and project tasks.


Single grade that combines achievements on tests and recitations
grading: 5 (fail), 6-10 (pass) (according to the Statute of UL)
