Enrolment in study program.

Successful completion of the first cycle study, field educational physics or equivalent.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Handling and using basic and advanced school experiments suitable for high-school physics.
Planning and design of simple experiments for active learning of physics.
Computer based measurements: equipment, analysis and presentation of data; planning and designing experiments with; integration in active learning of physics.
Basics of digital photography (including video and high speed) and digital analysis of sound; planning and design of school experiments based on digital photography and audio recordings.
Use of modern multimedia equipment, computer simulations, ICT and selected didactical software for teaching and learning physics.

Objectives and competences

Objectives:
Students will become familiar with modern equipment for teaching physics and will be able to handle it. Students will be able to independently plan and conduct didactical experiments and use them productively in active learning.

Competences:
Ability to use modern didactical equipment and ICT and to integrate these into active learning classroom. Ability to judge and decide which equipment and experiments are suitable for particular teaching method and level.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:
Through the independent practical work students will deepen knowledge of physics and gain experiences with experimental work. Students will learn how to integrate didactic experiments and other equipment into the physics lesson. They will also learn how to design and make simple experiments.

Application: Application of school equipment and ICT to improve learning of physics.

Reflection:
Critical evaluation of various types of experiments and other equipment from the point of view of their didactical value.

Transferable skills:
Ability to use and implement computer technology in particular computer based measurements and ICT in science subjects.
Ability to work in team.

Learning and teaching methods

Introductory lesson with discussion. Group and individual experimental work.

Assessment

The final grade is formed based on the following criteria: the quality of conducting experiments and integrating them in lesson plan; the level of understanding the main topic and the quality of analyzing the data.
grading: 5 (fail), 6-10 (pass) (according to the Statute of UL)
