For enrollment in the second cycle, please monitor the calls for applications to master's degree programs at the University of Ljubljana for the academic year 2025/2026. Applications will open progressively for each faculty or program and will remain open until the deadlines specified in the call for applications.
The call for applications is structured into three sections. The general section contains crucial information necessary for understanding the subsequent sections of the call and the application process. The second section details the accredited master's degree programs offered, organized by the respective faculties of the University of Ljubljana. Contact information for each faculty, where additional inquiries can be directed, is also provided. This section is followed by a table outlining the available positions for each program. Each program is described with the following details: program name, specializations (where applicable), program duration, admission requirements, and selection criteria in the event of limited enrollment. For certain programs, admission requirements may include specific talent assessments. Additional relevant information or instructions for candidates are also provided for individual programs. Any restrictions related to the implementation of a program, such as the minimum number of enrolled candidates required to commence the first year, are indicated for each study program in the table at the end of the call for applications.
Further details regarding the conditions and comprehensive information on enrollment in the second cycle are available at this link.

Students enrolled in second and third-cycle Bologna programs who meet the requirements for enrollment in a higher year must:
- Complete the enrollment form in the VIS system. If your enrollment form is not available, please contact the student office immediately.
- Prior to completing the enrollment form, ensure that all financial obligations are settled, and all surveys are completed.
- Elective Courses for the Second Cycle: In the VIS system, you will need to select elective courses. Mandatory courses will be assigned automatically. Elective courses will be offered on a cyclical basis, meaning you will choose from courses offered in both the first and second years, regardless of your year of enrollment. The total number of credits, including mandatory and elective courses, must amount to 60 ECTS per year. Additional information on elective courses is available on the websites of the respective study programs and from the coordinators of each program.
- After completing the enrollment form, please leave your student ID at the reception desk of the building at Jadranska 19 for the placement of a new sticker. Collection will generally be possible after October 1st at the reception of OF.
For Third-Cycle Students: The doctoral study contract and declaration (Enrollment - print attachments) must be sent via email to fizika@fmf.uni-lj.si.
Special Notices
- Students are advised to verify in the VIS system that all grades have been properly recorded. In the event of any missing grades, students should arrange with the respective professor to have them entered.
- Students who wish to re-enroll in the same year and meet the eligibility requirements should inform the student office via email at fizika@fmf.uni-lj.si so that the enrollment form can be made available in the VIS system for the upcoming academic year.
- Students who do not meet the requirements for advancement to a higher year or re-enrollment must submit a request via the VIS system (exceptional enrollment, extension of status, etc.) no later than the deadline, which will be announced subsequently. The request must be printed and submitted to the student office. Important: The FMF Committee for Academic Affairs will review requests only once, at the beginning of September. The committee’s decision will be communicated to students via the VIS system.
- Re-enrollment is permitted only once during the course of study in a program. Changing the study field or program due to failure to meet obligations in the previous field or program is also considered re-enrollment.
- If you have not utilized your option to repeat a year, transfer, or change programs/fields and are in the final year of your study program, you may be eligible for an additional year. No further conditions apply for the use of the additional year. You must notify the student office by September 25th at the latest if you wish to utilize this additional year, so that the enrollment form can be manually opened for you. The enrollment form must be completed in the VIS system, and your student ID must be submitted to the OF reception.
Do You Have Valid Reasons for Not Meeting the Requirements?
This year, requests for the extension of studies due to exceptional circumstances (such as COVID) will not be accepted. However, you may submit a request for an extension of student status for valid reasons. Further information regarding valid reasons can be found HERE under section 1.2.
Requests for extending student status for valid reasons will be available in the VIS system, but only at the beginning of September. The exact date when these requests will open in VIS, along with instructions for their completion and submission, will be announced in August on the Physics Student Announcements page.
The completed and signed request, along with supporting documentation, must be submitted to the student office in a timely manner, either in person or by registered mail. The request will be reviewed by the FMF Committee for Academic Affairs.
In accordance with the provisions of the Rules on the Call for Enrollment and the Implementation of Enrollment in Higher Education (enrollment deadlines) and the General Administrative Procedure Act regarding the delivery of decisions, the Committee for Academic Affairs will not consider late submissions. The appeal body (FMF Senate) will address objections at its October session.
Do You Not Have Valid Reasons but Still Wish to Continue Your Studies at FMF?
If the requirements for enrollment or re-enrollment are not met, the loss of student status is automatic. The VIS system will reclassify you as a “gap year” student in October, and there is no need to inform the student office.
You will retain access to VIS, your faculty email, and the Online Classroom for up to two academic years after losing your student status.
You will still be able to register for any remaining exams, although these will be charged according to the UL price list.
Since regularly enrolled students have priority, and the number of seats in lecture halls has been reduced due to COVID, attendance at lectures and exercises will be contingent upon available seating. Please contact the course instructors to confirm whether you are permitted to attend lectures and exercises.
In addition to completing any remaining exams, you may choose to take exams in advance, subject to the approval of the OF Committee for Academic Affairs. The request for extraordinary exam-taking can be found in the VIS system. The signed request (which can also be in electronic form) must be submitted to the student office.
Once you meet the requirements for enrollment in a higher year, the enrollment form for the upcoming academic year will automatically be made available at the end of the current academic year. If this does not occur, please contact the student office immediately. After successfully enrolling in the higher year, you will continue your studies as usual.
The start of lectures for the academic year 2024/2025 will be announced at a later date.
The schedule for the winter semester will be published on the faculty's website by September 2024 at the latest. Please check the schedule multiple times during the first weeks of October for any possible updates or changes.
After a period of two years following the loss of student status, access to the VIS system, the Online Classroom, and your email account will no longer be possible. Continuation of studies is only permitted with the approval of the OF Committee for Academic Affairs. The process begins with your request to continue your studies. The form can be found under the "Prošnje, obrazci in pravilniki" tab. The completed and signed form should be submitted to the student office either in person or by mail, or it may be sent electronically.
The OF Committee for Academic Affairs will review your request, determine which obligations you must fulfill to continue or complete your studies, and set deadlines for meeting these obligations. The decision will be delivered to you personally in accordance with the provisions of the Administrative Procedure Act. The issuance of the decision will be charged according to the UL price list.
Should you decide to discontinue your studies at FMF, please complete the "Request for Withdrawal" form, available under the "Prošnje, obrazci in pravilniki" tab. Submit this form along with your student ID to the student office either in person or by registered mail. If you have not collected your student ID, please indicate this on the request form. The same procedure applies in the event of loss. If you deliver the request in person, you will receive the withdrawal confirmation immediately. If sent by mail, it may be forwarded to you via email or postal service. Please indicate your preference for receiving the confirmation on the request form.
Prior to processing your withdrawal/discontinuation of studies, you must:
- Settle all financial obligations with UL FMF,
- Fulfill all obligations with the FMF Library, and
- Complete any outstanding exam registrations.
Effective from the date of withdrawal (rather than the end of the academic year), you will forfeit student status and all associated rights and benefits (such as health insurance, subsidized accommodation in student dormitories, meal vouchers, and subsidized public transport). An exception is made for students withdrawing due to a transfer to another study program.
Attention! You will not be able to continue or complete the study program later.
Mandatory enrollment in the second cycle is conducted through the eVŠ portal. The conditions and detailed information regarding enrollment in the second cycle are published at this link.
Enrollment instructions will be sent via email.
