On the Nuclear Data Evaluation Processes for Applications in Nuclear Technology
Povzetek / Abstract:
The term "Nuclear Data" refers to information describing the internal structure of the nucleus, fission product yields, and reaction rates. Numerical simulations using nuclear data are relevant or nuclear power, shielding, analytical work, medical therapeutic and diagnostic radionuclide production, computerized tomography, oil-well logging, demining in former war-zones, etc. Evaluated nuclear data are the starting point for generating application libraries for specific codes. The data source are theoretical nuclear models and experimental data, combined by applying the generalised least-squares method. Evaluated data are stored in the so-called ENDF-6 format. Validation is the final steps in the evaluation process. Benchmarks in the ICSBEP Handbook and the SINBAD data-base are used for the purpose. Nuclear data evaluation is a lengthy process, which may be subjective in some cases. Nevertheless, progress is reflected in the overall improvements in the performance of new libraries.
