Kodak European Research Centre, Cambridge, UK
The student will work in the printing group within Kodak European Research new laboratories at Cambridge. The student will work within a multidisciplinary team, but under the supervision of an experienced research scientist. Each team will be comprised of scientists from different disciplines (chemistry, physics, materials science, nanotechnology and electronic engineering). He/she will receive technical training across a range of printing technologies.
Project work will focus on the study of material behaviours within printing applications. This is likely to involve experimental investigations of soft matter physics relating to ink behaviour in droplet formation and or surface flows. Studies of the underlying surface chemistry and physics will also be carried out.
Although the final selection of the technical area will not be made until September 2008, it is likely to be selected from the following list: i) Design of inks for inkjet systems, ii) Design of media for inkjet systems, iii) Surface science of ink/media interactions, and iv) Novel printing systems.
Desirable attributes to be exhibited by the student include: i) Working in a lab environment with confidence, ii) Learning new techniques and applying them to the project, iii) Communicating experimental results in an effective way, iv) Working across scientific boundaries in an interdisciplinary team.Applicants should contact Mitja Blazincic at mitja.blazincic@kodak.com.
