Dr. Hatice Akbaş: Bose-Einstein condensation

Mustafa Kemal University of Hatay, Turkey

S.N. Bose and A. Einstein showed that atoms in a non-interacting Bose gases can condense into a single quantum state. This means that BEC is a new form of matter. The phase transition of the boson system is similar to vapor condensation; therefore it has been called Bose-Einstein Condensation. BEC has been an important topic in many-body physics for decades and has been used to study many problems in quantum statistical mechanics. The phenomenon allows the atoms to behave collectively and is responsible for the behavior of lasers and superfluid helium.
