Research associate/scientific programmer
Theoretical Meteorology group at UHH is looking for a research
associate/scientific programmer to start as soon as possible for a
limited period up to Jan 2021.
The candidate will contribute to the development of a new global
numerical prediction model together with a mathematician and an
atmospheric scientist.
The concrete work is the development of the model’s vertical
dimension starting from already developed Fortran code that solves the
2D Navier-Stokes equations using the Hough harmonics as the expansion
functions. This is an exciting opportunity for everybody
interested in fluid dynamics and numerical modelling, especially
weather prediction and climate modelling.
A PhD is not a mandatory requirement and candidates with the
background in geosciences, physics, mathematics, and numerical computing
are welcome. Experience in numerical solutions of geophysical flow,
especially using Fortran, is a definite advantage.
The position calls for 39 work-hours per week (100%). The salary is
according to TV-L 13 scale if the appointment is made at the level of a
research associate (post-doc), or at TV-L 11 level for a scientific
programmer (no PhD).
The position is open until filled.
To apply, send the application including cover letter, CV, names
and contact information of two references, and copies of degree
certificates to Prof. Nedjeljka Žagar (nedjeljka.zagar@uni-hamburg.de).
