The purely leptonic decays of B and Ds mesons provide a unique opportunity to test the Standard Model and search for new physics. In the absence of particles and processes beyond the Standard model a measurement of meson's leptonic decay rate provide a determination of the fundamental parameters of the Standard Model - magnitude of the corresponding element in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix. Physics beyond the Standard model, however, could significantly suppress or enhance leptonic decay rates via exchange of a new charged particles such as a charged Higgs boson from supersymmetry or from two-Higgs doublet models.
Experimental measurements of leptonic decays of mesons are very challenging due to presence of one or more neutrinos in the final state. In the seminar, I will present the concepts of these measurement, the improvements achieved recently by utilizing advanced selection techniques using neural networks, and end with the review of results.
