Entanglement from hyperbolic striping of triply-periodic minimal surfaces
Dr. Myfanwy Evans, Theoretical Physics, Erlangen-Nürnberg University, Germany
High symmetry dense packings of trees and lines in the two-dimensional hyperbolic plane can be projected to triply-periodic minimal surfaces. The resulting three-dimensional structures are complex and entangled. A particular family of these patterns on the Gyroid can be used to describe the self assembly of a set of hierarchical and chiral multicontinuous network structures from Y-shaped ABC and ABD three-miktoarm star terpolymers, formed during numerical simulations. In this talk, I will discuss the construction and characterisation of these complex entangled structures alongside applications from structural chemistry to skin swelling.http://theorie1.physik.uni-erlangen.de/people/mevans/publications.html
