Intergranular cracks are among the main causes for retirement of safety equipment in nuclear power plants. They are especially frequent in face-centered-cubic (FCC) stainless steels and Ni alloys and may be accelerated by the neutron irradiation. We will review the main concepts and results of multiscale simulations, developed at the Reactor Engineering Division of Jožef Stefan Institute. These involve explicit modeling of random grain shapes and orientations together with some insights from the dislocation dynamics.
