We review a formulation of electrostatic interactions as an example of a dynamically constrained system and show that it gives rise to new ways of simulating charged media, as well as an original way of formulating Casimir/Lifshitz interactions within statistical mechanics. We show how to use methods from sparse matrix algebra to evaluate dispersion interactions in general geometries.
