Precipitation is an important meteorological parameter which is very difficult to predict, observe and also to verify. The traditional verification methods do not work satisfactory for precipitation and in the last decade or so new methods have been developed to address this problem. One of the more popular methods is the Fraction Skill Score (FSS). In the seminar I will briefly present the problem of precipitation verification and then present the FSS and my work on understanding the FSS and its properties.
