A fully-funded PhD position is available in the field of Cellular Wireless Positioning at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science of the University of Ljubljana. The PhD project is sponsored by the R&D branch of u-blox, a market leader in the production of wireless and positioning i.c.s and modules (www.ublox.com). The research will be carried out at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science (FRI), under the supervision of Prof. Fabio Ricciato.

The prospective candidate will develop novel robust methods for indoor node positioning based on terrestrial UMTS/LTE signals. The research will involve a mixture of theoretical and experimental activities, with extensive analysis of real measurement data.

The ideal candidate has a formal education in Mathematics, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering. He/she is curious, proactive and enjoys engaging in puzzling technical/scientific challenges that involve both theoretical reasoning and system-level thinking. A background in basic statistics and/or data analysis would be a plus.

The candidate is expected to enroll into PhD Study Programme at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science in year 2016/2017 (deadline for submission of applications is 3rd June 2016) and to complete his/her doctoral study within three years (possible extensions are possible subject to mutual agreement). The position does NOT require engagement in teaching nor any other additional duties (e.g., proposal writing) besides research.
