Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Studies of Strongly Correlated Materials
Dr. Erik Zupanič
Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana
Materials with correlated electrons exhibit some of the most intriguing phenomena in condensed matter physics, from colossal magnetoresistance to unconventional superconductivity, to name just a few. Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is a powerful surface-sensitive tool used to explore different materials due to its exceptional spatial and high energy resolution. In the talk I will present different tunneling spectroscopy techniques with emphasis on the ability of STM to map coherent quasiparticle interference (QPI) which enables new ways in studying the momentum-space structure of various complex systems.
