The packing of polymeric nanocolloidal particles remains an interesting open
problem in the physics of soft condensed matter. The common feature of
dendrimer micelles, star polymers, spherical polymer brushes, diblock copolymer
micelles is that in dense suspensions, they deform so as to fill space. In
terms of structure, the thus formed ordered phases are generally quite different
from elemental solids as witnessed, e.g., by the frequent occurrence of the A15
lattice and quasicrystals in monodisperse systems. We will review some of the
experimental results in the field and outline a few coarse-grained,
particle-level models proposed to describe clustering, exotic crystal lattices,
and quasicrystals as well as microscopic elasticity of such particles.
