New platforms for integrated solid state quantum devices

Povzetek / Abstract: The coherent interaction between photons and atoms lays the bases of quantum information science, whose purpose is to open new possibilities for the transmission and the processing of information. It is crucial, for example, for the realization of quantum networks. Here the optical quantum memories are fundamental building blocks as they allow synchronizing the different stages of the quantum processes. In the contribution, I will present a new strategy to develop integrated quantum memory using a Pr3+: YSO crystal. I will report on the demonstration of a novel platform for quantum light storage based on laser written waveguides in a new writing regime that enables to obtain waveguides with improved confining capabilities. I will show that the high count rate achieved thanks to the multi-mode storage allows us to make a detailed analysis of the photon statistics after the storage. Finally, I will discuss the remarkable advantages of the proposed platform with respect to other integrated designs.
