Title: The homomorphisms from the Hawaiian earring group
Abstract:
The Hawaiian earring can be regarded as a prototypical wild topological
space, especially where fundamental groups are concerned. I'll provide
a kind introduction to the Hawaiian earring group as well as outline a
proof of a recent dichotomy result. More particularly- if there
exists even one nonconstructive homomorphism from the Hawaiian earring
group to a group of cardinality less than continuum then there exists
powerset-of-a-continuum-many homomorphisms to the group.
